Keep the Dome Up!

Hold to inflate. Sag, then surge.

A blizzard is sitting on Sioux Center's air-supported dome and you're the one at the blower. Hold to keep the pressure up. Snow only comes off when the fabric surges: let the roof sag, then hold hard so it springs back and cracks the pile loose. Sag deeper for a bigger slide, but the low end is red, and a hard spring overshoots into the high red. Two seconds out of the green costs a life. Three lives. How long can you keep it standing?

Leaderboard

This week's best time per keeper.

The board runs Friday through Thursday and resets every Friday morning. The longest time on top when Friday's 6:30 newsletter goes out wins a prize; ties go to inches cleared. We'll email the winner.

Hold

The blower runs while you hold. Pressure climbs, the dome swells. Let go and it slowly bleeds off; the more snow on the roof, the faster it drops.

Surge

Let go until the roof dips (the notch on the gauge marks how low you went), then hold: the fabric springs up and the pile cracks and slides off in clumps. The deeper the sag, the harder the spring and the bigger the slide (and the more buried somebody's pickup). A deep sag also snaps up fast enough to overshoot, so let go before the needle hits the top red.

Survive

Everything is announced before it hits: a blizzard warning three seconds ahead, a team walking up before the door opens (pressure drops while it's open), a gust arrow before the needle gets shoved. Three lives, then the dome sinks like a marshmallow (nobody's hurt). Ride out the full three minutes and the storm breaks.
